What does it mean to be a

mustang track & Field

Athlete?

Being a member of Mustang Track & Field means being part of something bigger than your individual event, PR, or performance.

With nearly 250 athletes across sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, throws, and relays, our success depends on every athlete contributing to the team. You don't have to be a varsity athlete, state qualifier, or the fastest athlete in your event to make an impact on this program.

Showing Up & punctuality

3

Be at practice and be ready to work.

Showing up to practice on time means that you’re late. Show up early ready to run at 5 minutes before. Putting on your shoes while the warm-up has started means that you’re late.

Put the team first

5

Track & Field is made up of individual events, but we are one team. Sometimes what the team needs may be different from what you would choose for yourself.

Compete in the events you’re entered in, your teammates and coaches are counting on you.

Be Coachable

4

Listen, ask questions, accept feedback, and be willing to try something outside your comfort zone.

COMMUNICATE

6

Talk directly with your coaches about injuries, concerns, questions, conflicts, or anything affecting your ability to train and compete.

Be willing to be challenged

7

Try new events and be open to coaches pushing you outside your comfort zone. Be comfortable in the uncomfortable.

Support your teammates

8

Cheer for more than your event group. Celebrate someone else's PR as much as your own.

Handle adversity

9

Bad races, missed marks, fouls, and disappointment are part of sports. How you respond matters. Give yourself 5 minutes and move onto the next event.

Take responsibility

10

Know your events, know the warm-up, know your marks, check in on time, bring what you need, and take ownership of your season

Leave it better than you found it

11

Whether it's the facility, the equipment, the team culture, or the program itself, contribute something positive.

Represent Eagle well

12

ATHLETE EXPECTATIONS

Your actions at school, at meets, in the community, and online reflect on our entire program.

Take care of our equipment and facilities and respect teammates, coaches, officials, volunteers, and competitors.

support your athlete

1

Celebrate effort, improvement, commitment, and character, not just times, places, and PRs.

Your job is to be the parent, not the coach.

Let our coaches coach

2

During practices and meets, allow our coaching staff to handle training, technique, event strategy, event assignments, and competition decisions.

Encourage athlete communication

3

If your athlete has a question or concern, encourage them to speak with their event coach first rather than immediately stepping in for them.

Communicate early

5

Know that your athlete’s

success matters to us

If your athlete will miss a practice or competition, let Coach Matt know in advance.

Be Coachable

4

Listen, ask questions, accept feedback, and be willing to try something outside your comfort zone.

Trust the process

6

Your athlete may be asked to try an event they didn't expect, train differently than they have before, or take on a role that benefits the team.

7

With nearly 250 athletes, coaches must balance individual development with safety, meet limitations, event coverage, and the overall needs of the team.

Sometimes tough decisions have to be made, but every athlete’s growth and success remain important to our staff.

2027 Fundraising Goal = $40,000

Be a positive presence at meets

8

Cheer loudly, support our athletes, and treat officials, volunteers, opponents, coaches, and other families with respect

Give athletes room to

succeed and fail

9

Not every meet will go according to plan. Give your athlete an opportunity to process, learn, and communicate with their coaches before trying to solve the problem for them.

Respect the communication chain

10

Athlete + Event Coach → Athlete + Event Coach + Head Coach → Athlete + Parent + Head Coach → Athlete + Parent + Head Coach + Athletic Director.

Get involved & support

The Program

11

Mustang Track & Field takes a team effort beyond the track.

Volunteer at home meets when you can, support our fundraising efforts, and look for opportunities to contribute to the program.

With nearly 250 athletes, parent involvement makes a meaningful difference in the experience we can provide for everyone.

Support the entire team

12

parent EXPECTATIONS

Mustang Track & Field is bigger than any one athlete, event group, relay, or performance.

Help us reinforce the standard

13

Attendance, accountability, sportsmanship, communication, and being a good teammate are expectations we want coaches and parents reinforcing together.
