Track Call Out Meeting Items

Some of the things to be covered in today's meeting:
  1. To be on this team, be prepared to commit.  That starts with your time.  That time is made valuable with your effort.  In other words, if you join this team we expect you to be here and we expect you to be giving 100% effort.
  2. Practice time is set for right now, from 2:45-4:30. That will likely extend in January, when things get a little more full.  Be on time, be respectful and pay attention, we will get started right away.  Stay focused on what you are trying to do with each phase of our day, and you will be done sooner.   Dont saunter from one thing to the next.  Move with a purpose.  
  3. Before you can join us, it is now a requirement that you have completed the Athlete Registration form, and have submitted your current year physical.  The physical must be one specifically for the 2014/2015 school year.  If you just got one last spring before track, it is no good.  You need to have one that was completed AFTER the 2014 track season.  
  4. Winter Warriors shirts this year.  Must attend 85% of the workouts to be eligible. 
  5. Be prepared for changes.  We have a strong Track and Field tradition here at Edgewood...but we believe we can do better.  As coaches we are always searching for better ways to approach our preparation.  That means some things may run a little differently than previous years.  Warmups, workouts, drills, weights, cooldowns, etc. may all have tweaks to what you may be used to.  It only works when YOU approach it with your genuine, best effort, in every phase of our training.  We know that we wont have our best "performance" every time out.  What we do control is our "effort" every time out.  
  6. Indiana Track Club:  Really important for the more technical events (Throwing, Jumping, Hurdles, etc.)  Link to the information is here.
  7. Get RUNNING shoes.  Not cross trainers.  Not basketball shoes.  To take this sport seriously, you will run.  With improper footwear, you are just asking for injury.  No one on the face of the planet can perform at their best if they are injured.  Make this investment.  Take care of your body, and it will take care of you. 
  8. Get a watch.  Take control of your own workouts.  If you need to have a 2:00 rest, it needs to be 2:00, not 2:20.  If you need to hit 28 seconds at a split, it needs to be 28, not 29.5.  The only way to tell the difference is to have the clock on it, and get used to using it.  You can find some basic stopwatches for as little as $10.  $30 for a pretty nice one.
